Betting News 17 April 2013

Newmarket RacecourseToday is an important day in racing as Newmarket racecourse is the place where two World Stakes Races and being held this afternoon and these two races are expected to see some massive amounts being turned over in the betting ring.

Racing gets underway at 1.45 pm at Newmarket and the first race of the day is the Alex Scott Maiden Stakes race.

This race is for Colts and Geldings and is run over a distance of seven furlongs. A total of 12 runners will be taking part in the race and with not a lot of form to go on in the race it may pay dividends to have a small wager on Estifzaaz who is sure to give you a run for your money and possibly give the racecourse commentator some problems with its unusual name!

The main races however starts at 4:05 pm with the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stake race which is run over a distance of 7 furlongs, the course reports the going Good and this race is covered on the Racing UK Channel.

Sky Lantern tops the market and is currently available at around the 5 to 2 and 11 to 4 mark and whilst not the most obvious choice in the list of runners there has been some serious money placed on this runner. Likely runners to trouble this favourite include Nargeys and Winning Express who are currently trading around to 5 to 1 and 7 to 1 marks respectively.

The race is open in all fairness and there are several other runners in the field who could make the grade today and as such value hunters will be out in force in the betting ring later today.

The other World Stake Race is being run at 4.40 pm at Newmarket and this is the ebm-papst Feilden Stakes race and this is run over 1 mile and 1 furlong. There are two horses running in this race which stands out from the others and these favourites are currently flip flopping in the market for favouritism.

The current favourite by a whisker is Intello who is readily available at many UK online betting sites at the 7 to 4 mark and the second favourite is Race and Status who is trading at a price of 2 to 1. One of these two runners is expected to take the race and it is hard to see any other runner in the race passing either of them
