What About Other Addictions?

Many gamblers have an "addictive personality." They may therefore engage in multiple addictions such as alcohol, drugs, sex, compulsive shopping, compulsive eating, or become a workaholic.

Addictions, if not properly treated, may "cross-over." In other words, you stop gambling, but then you go out drinking every night instead.

Although our center primarily treats compulsive gambling, our clinicians are trained in treating other addictions as well. In the event that you are experiencing another severe addiction or compulsion (such as eating) we will sometimes consult with or refer you to other specialty services that will assist you in the unique issues of that disorder.

However, our treatment includes primarily individual therapy which assists in the area of cross addiction. Groups often focus solely on one addiction (which is why we receive so many clients who attempted alcohol programs yet were dissatisfied).

Individual treatment allows us to find the root causes that are unique to you. These causes are typically the same roots that lead you to other addictions. Our individual treatment may therefore help to prevent cross-addictions in your recovery.
