This is not a locked facility. Clients are free to go out as they please, and are encouraged to do so for lunch and leisure times. Although we are not a locked in facility, we are a very structured program with rules in place to provide accountability and responsible mature behavior. We do not believe that abstinence by avoidance will lead to long term recovery. To lock the gambler up for 4-6 weeks would simply be another escape for the gambler. We typically would find, then when they returned home, they were overwhelmed by the "real world". We would rather them be in touch with the real world during their stay with us, so that we may deal with triggers or urges while they are in treatment.
These "sign outs" are monitored and in some cases may be revoked if, for example, this privilege were abused (e.g. missing therapy sessions, staying out late etc.). In all cases, the facility is designed to be more comfortable than traditional "hospital" settings.
Family is encouraged to visit during any times that the client is not in session. We do request that any family visits be approved by our clinical team prior to the arrival date. Family members will often be encouraged to attend treatment sessions as well.
