Is There Help for Family Members?

Yes.

Family members and friends of a compulsive gambler may attend GamAnon.

It is a support group for those who have been affected by a compulsive gambler. You may also seek professional assistance on an outpatient basis.

Family and friends of compulsive gamblers often deal with intense feelings of hurt, betrayal, anger, and confusion at the addict's behaviors.

Support for these feelings as well as education on co-dependency and enabling can help you to make choices about how to proceed.
Harbour Pointe realizes that this addiction does not only affect the gambler but those that are closest to the gambler as well.  As part of our residential program, we offer a very strong family component for all of our clients.  We will invite the family into our facility during their loved ones stay so that they too may partake in the treament process with their loved ones for a couple of days.
It is our goal to not only help the addict but to also help the family as a whole return to a healthy functioning unit once again.
