Nigel Benn was called the”fittest 55-year-old on planet Earth” as he begs to get a shock ring return.
The champion hasn’t fought since November 1996 but may resume his career around 23 November, according to some promoter Mark Peters.
“I wouldn’t encourage Nigel when I did not think that he had been fit to ship,” he added.
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoc) is against the fight, which is sanctioned by the rival British and Irish Boxing Authority (Biba).
Benn – whose last fight was a defeat with Irishman Steve Collins 23 years past – and Biba’s medical evaluations have handed, while there’ll be a professional in head trauma and also a brain scanner accessible at ringside on fight night.
40, world champion Sakio Bika, has been tipped to be his competitor.
Petershis promoter and long-time buddy, told BBC Sport the story should be seen as a a positive one, and that even at 55, London-born Benn is in a condition that most guys half his age would envy.
“It is not like Nigel left the sport, wrapped up his gloves rather than trained ,” he explained. “He must be the most picky 55-year-old on planet Earth.
“He has still been training two times per day and he will shadow box everywhere.
“I would not support Nigel when I did not think he had been fit to ship. Nor is he doing this for monetary reasons. He’s away from skint – in fact, he has built a large 10-bedroom home for himself in which he lives.
“It is his life and also his prerogative to battle.
“From his viewpoint, this can be closing for him.”
Benn was a part of a generation in the branch in the 1990s, his all-action style leading to big fights.
There were attempts to arrange a struggle with the two of those two on this occasion, while a strategy was made to American Roy Jones Jr..
Rather, Benn is predicted to confront Cameroon-born Bika, whose last battle was in 2017, and that lost to the Welsh former world champion Joe Calzaghe in 2006 on points.
Biba – a rival into the BBBoC – said that it was joyful to licence the struggle, despite Benn’s age.
There will also be stringent protocols since Biba introduced portable scanners to ringside whatsoever their sanctioned struggles in March 2017.
“Nigel Benn is in great condition,” said Biba vice-president Gianluca di Caro. “He’s really a magnificent athlete. He isn’t taking any chances and he’s currently minimising risk.
“All of the boxes are ticked for us. There’ll be increased medical supervision and that which will be in place.”
No application was made – the governing body for the game in the UK – regardless of the fight taking place.
“Nigel Benn has not boxed for a long, long time,” said Robert Smith, the general secretary of the BBBofC.
“We have had a formal program for a license from him we had a conversation in the summertime and we told him that he was very, very unlikely to get you.
“It is not in the best interests , or for your sport.”
One of Benn’s most renowned fights at the height of his career came from American Gerald McClellan in 1995, with McClellan suffering life-changing injuries.
Injuries in the game continue to cause controversy, together with trainer Robert McCracken’s comments about British Anthony Joshua regarding concussion within his defeat with Andy Ruiz Jr, lately making headlines.
Brain trauma charity, Headway, is uncomfortable about the notion of a 55-year-old boxing competitively.
“Boxing at any age is an inherently dangerous sport,” said chief executive Peter McCabe.
“We all know that each and each blow to the head delivered by a boxer has got the capability to cause serious and long-term brain injury or even death.”
