School Worker Steals £30,000 to Fund Gambling

Claire MosbyA former school governor and office manager at a primary schools in Leeds has recently been convicted of helping herself to over £30,000 from the school safe, the money was intended to pay for school meals, outings and school clubs and events for the pupils.

Once the crime was discovered it became apparent that she had used the money to fund her gambling addiction which included playing both online bingo and making cash withdrawals from ATM’s located in a nearby land based bingo hall.

It was a local Finance Officer who first noticed the account holding these funds was lower than expected and it was claimed that Claire Mosby who has been found guilty of the theft was obstructive when questioned.

Eventually a full investigation was launched and checks revealed a massive shortfall in the cash held in the school safe. She was suspended and it further became apparent that she had been taking doorstep loans. She as been warned a prison sentence is the most likely outcome of the court case.

These types of crimes are becoming more and more commonplace with addicts digging themselves into a hole and unable to repay the cash stolen, and then trying, by whatever means to win back the cash by taking more and more cash or taking out loans in the hope of having that illusive big win, to pay back the stolen funds, which sadly never materializes.
